Monday Meal Plan

In: Food

This is apparently the Week of the Crockpot.  I don’t know why, exactly, that I have three crockpot recipes suddenly.  I do love the concept of a crockpot, though I am not terribly good at remembering to use it.  That reminds me, I bought a new crockpot on Black Friday that I haven’t even taken [...]

Meal Plan Monday

In: Food

I’m pretty sure that this week’s meal plan will be changed mid-week. I think my parents are planning on coming over to spend the night with their grandbaby, and I will probably decide to cook something else. My mom is a diabetic and they commited to a low-carb lifestyle recently and are doing really well [...]

Meal Planning Monday

In: Food

Remember that Quizno’s sub I had scheduled for last week?  Turns out–it’s a lot easier to eat at Quizno’s if they are still in business.  We headed out the other night intending to use our coupons for free subs but there was a sign on the door saying they were under new management and would [...]

Free food!

In: Food

With the economy in the shape it’s in, corporate America must think we’re all very hungry. Free sub from Quizno’s Free roast burger from Arby’s (also: $.99 roast beef sandwiches on Thursday, no coupon required.) Free frozen dinner from Kashi (coupon) …and if I’d posted this early enough, I could have also mentioned free pancakes [...]

Eat your kiwi the smart way

In: Food

This may be obvious to everyone else, but I had never seen it until now.  I lead a sheltered life.  To eat a kiwi, slice it in half and use a spoon to scoop up the flesh.  Brilliant!  No mess, no time spent peeling–easy and convenient!  And here I have always peeled those slipper little [...]

Ziti with Roasted Veggies

In: Food

This is delicious and healthy. What more can you ask for? 1 pound ziti (or penne or even rotini) zucchini yellow squash, or eggplant, or both 1 red onion 1 can of crushed tomatoes balsamic vinegar Basil Italian herb seasoning Parmesan cheese 1. Preheat oven to 450. 2. Dice vegetables into smallish chunks. You don’t [...]

Frozen Green Peppers

In: Food, Frugal

I make pizza from scratch pretty often, because it’s dirt cheap, healthier and my husband and I both prefer my pizza to delivery. However, sometimes you want to just throw something from the freezer into the oven, and we always have a few frozen pizzas in our basement freezer.  I have discovered that no matter [...]

Menu Planning Monday. Err, Tuesday.

In: Food

I meant to post this yesterday, but I had a serious case of the lazies. I sat down in the afternoon and flipped through a  magazine, of all things. (It was my first issue of my All You subscription, so I was thinking of coupons anyway, but still!)  I momentarily felt guilty until I remembered [...]

Monday Meal Plan

In: Food, Home

Everyone says this but it’s true–the best way to cut your grocery bill is to plan your meals for the week. It’s the best way to handle your groceries even if you’re not trying to save money, though, because you never have that “what’s for dinner?” question hanging over your head, and you always know [...]

K’s Lasagna Recipe

In: Food

Lasagna is one of the dishes that I am known for making. It’s not going to win any awards for authenticity but to be honest with you, it’s really good and I would rather have tasty food than authentic food, so I never worry too much about it.  It’s not the K’s Lasagna 3/4 to [...]

About this blog

When I became a stay-at-home-mom, I promised I could save our family money by shopping sales and maybe even using a few coupons. I had no idea what I was getting into. These days, I am on a first-name basis with the cashiers at the local drugstores, I haven't paid for toothpaste or shampoo in over a year and I spend my free time here, helping others do the same. So please, make yourself at home while you learn how to save, and when to spend!
