Living better, spending less.
My Kroger trip would make for a better show-and-tell, but I didn’t have time to take pictures of it and now the cold stuff has already been put away. I bought 22 Covergirl eyeshadows, 2 bottles of Aussie conditioner, two Glade plug-ins, a Toaster Strudel (apple!), a half gallon of OJ (Minute Maid–not on sale, but it tastes like sunshine! and also, it’s the only kind Evelyn will drink), a carton of yogurt (for which I forgot my coupon..doh! but when a baby needs to eat, a baby needs to eat) for a little less than eight bucks (and with luck, will resell for $27ish…)
Oh, and here’s a tip for you! Rifling through the trash equals profit! haha. The self-checkout lady helpfully pointed out that the catalina coupon printing was for savings on the whole purchase, and confided that a lady a little while ago had walked off and left one for fifty cents, and that they weren’t allowed to keep them so she had to throw it away, which seemed like such a waste to her. I commiserated with her, and then when her back was turned, I reached into the trash (it was just paper!) and found that fifty cent coupon right on top. Doubles to a dollar, you know. Instant savings. :)
So. Anyway. Rite Aid is what I was going to post about.
Total OOP: $38.19 (16.04, 22.15)
SCRs to be received: $49.94 (5, 5, 2.99, 2.99, 2, 2, 4.99, 4.99, 9.99, 9.99)
Total Cost: $11.75 profit
I broke the first rule of Rite Aid shopping and forgot to bring enough $5/$25 with me. I could have saved another $5 if I’d had an extra. Oops! Oh well. They paid me twelve bucks to bring this stuff home, how much can I really complain? :)
There are six or seven bags of candy, clearanced to $0.10 each. I told the cashier that I’d buy anything for ten cents. ;) There are only six laying there, but I paid for seven. I don’t know if we miscounted or if the other bag fell out of the bag in my trunk. Am not worried about the lost dime. ;) The Advil was on clearance for $1.13 each, but rang up for $1.12. (I had two $1 coupons–I brought them with me because I saw them there last week.) I thought that was kind of humorous for some reason but I kept it to myself. I am trying hard to be on my best behavior since I really want them to continue liking me there in that store, which I’m driving out of town to get to. Did I mention that, that I am boycotting the evil local Rite Aid because they treat me like a criminal? All’s well that ends well, though, because this Rite Aid is by far the nicest one I’ve ever been to. So take that, crummy little mean store! ;)
They did not, however, have the wart remover or the probiotics or the tape (all free after rebates.) Maybe I’ll have a chance to get to another Rite Aid before the week is up, but I will probably just have to miss out on those.
When I became a stay-at-home-mom, I promised I could save our family money by shopping sales and maybe even using a few coupons. I had no idea what I was getting into. These days, I am on a first-name basis with the cashiers at the local drugstores, I haven't paid for toothpaste or shampoo in over a year and I spend my free time here, helping others do the same. So please, make yourself at home while you learn how to save, and when to spend!

(I can read it fairly well but writing is pretty hard for me.)
I still can’t believe that I can actually get the stores to give me things for free, much less pay me to bring something home! Most people have no clue that you can do this, or if they do know, they’re not interested in doing it themselves since it’s a lot of work to prepare. It’s too bad that you can’t do that in Sweden! It’s a lot of fun. :)
And now… can I ask if we (Magnus or me) know you? Sorry if I should–I just don’t recognize the email address. :)
Thanks for your nice comment!
