Living better, spending less.
Since my dear, sweet, loveable child decided that sleeping was out of fashion on Sunday night and therefore was awake from 1:50 a.m. until SIX IN THE MORNING, she slept until 11:10 and I knew there was no way she’d take a nap anyway, I took off for the next town over to have lunch with the husband. And there was totally no connection to this decision and the fact that I could go to another CVS while I was there. Really! And after I left there, I thought I’d stop by the other one on the way home, since I was on that side of town anyway. I did better than average.

I used several rainchecks that had been accumulating, which worked out well with the $10/$50 that I got from the magic scanner last week. I was also able to use a $5/$25 for my mom’s card. The boxes of cereal were a $1 overage, the band-aids were $5.42 overage (total), the deodorants were $2 overage (total), the tape all gave back $.50 more on the ECB than I paid for them, the Tylenol..well, the Tylenol was supposed to be an overage of $1 each, but I think it ended up being $2 because I think she manually printed the ECBs for the wrong amount, based on the ECBs I ended up with. I didn’t notice it until I left.
It was a good day.
Also, I’m glad that I went ahead and stopped at the second store. I wasn’t sure if I would, but I was hoping I’d find a little more of the school supplies (which I did.) As I was checking out, Evelyn kept up a steady stream of one-sided conversation with the baby at the next register. (She really wanted him to know that she wanted to walk, and also that she wanted to go to a better store. Ha.) Anyway, I talked to his mom for a few minutes when she asked if I was a couponer. She is, too–a brand new one! So, that was fun. Hi, Kelly! It was nice to meet you and I hope to see you out shopping again. :)
When I became a stay-at-home-mom, I promised I could save our family money by shopping sales and maybe even using a few coupons. I had no idea what I was getting into. These days, I am on a first-name basis with the cashiers at the local drugstores, I haven't paid for toothpaste or shampoo in over a year and I spend my free time here, helping others do the same. So please, make yourself at home while you learn how to save, and when to spend!
