Living better, spending less.
My mom and aunt came down to visit with us today, and we headed out for lunch and to do a little light shopping. My super-expensive lunch was actually free using a gift card purchased with Register Rewards during a particularly profitable week. :) (I usually only do Walgreens gift cards when I roll my RRs into gift cards. I feel slightly less shady when I do that.) My mom wanted to spend her K-Mart gift card, so we went there.. and it just happens to be within walking distance of Walgreens, so…
I bought eleven curling irons for $1.99 each! They’re on sale for $4.99 this month, and I used a $3 Walgreens coupon (from asking about the Prescription Savings Club at the pharmacy.) The Aquafresh is free after RR, and I had $1 coupons for the $1.99 sale on shaving cream–which the coupons for Aquafresh helped bring down to closer to fifty cents each. I bought the Vitamin D for my mom, and she paid me back for it, so ignore those two bottles.
OOP: $26.68
RR spent: $16.00
Total spent: $52.68
RR Received: $15.00 (3, 3, 3, 3, 3)
PSC: $1.30
Personal shopper reimbursement: $12.50 :)
Total Cost: $37.68 (including vitamins)
Total Cost (to me): $25.18
My store has never had a problem with how many of a particular item that I buy, or I might not have bought so many of the curling irons. It’s a fairly obscure sale, though, and it’s the end of the month, so I went ahead and bought what I wanted.
Edited to add: I actually went to Walgreens on Sunday morning and Tuesday afternoon as well, but I apparently didn’t take pictures of what I bought or post about it. It was Lucky Charms on Tuesday, I remember that, and Aquafresh and shaving gel on Sunday.
When I became a stay-at-home-mom, I promised I could save our family money by shopping sales and maybe even using a few coupons. I had no idea what I was getting into. These days, I am on a first-name basis with the cashiers at the local drugstores, I haven't paid for toothpaste or shampoo in over a year and I spend my free time here, helping others do the same. So please, make yourself at home while you learn how to save, and when to spend!
