Living better, spending less.
I am having a busy week, trying to get ready for my daughter’s second birthday party. I made a shopping list on Wednesday and headed out for a round of sales shopping, determined to not need to go anywhere else the rest of the week. That way I’d have plenty of time to prepare for the party. And yet, I have had to go shopping for party-related items both days anyway. Of course. And then Evie refused to nap today. I am going to have a super-fun day tomorrow trying to get everything taken care of! :)
Walgreens
This was a total of eight transactions at two different stores. I had seventy some dollars in Register Rewards in my wallet and I really wanted to roll or spend them, so I did things a little differently than I normally would have. For example, I actually paid money for this stuff! I can’t do the full write-up tonight because it’s already past my bedtime, but here’s the short version.

2 7-Up
1 Diet 7-Up
4 Pert for Men
8 Colgate Sensitive toothpastes
1 Swiffer wetjet refill
1 Swiffer sweeping refill
3 Swiffer wet cloth refills
20 Hunt’s tomato sauces
2 Magic Erasers
5 Right Guard deodorants
Grand total — $15.97 cost. I know, isn’t it terrible? The tomato sauce was not a fantastic price, but pretty good–$0.35 after a RR on $10 worth of participating products. So I bought twenty, which was enough to qualify for the RR, and gleefully used twenty RR to pay (and included loading $25 on a gift card). I was thrilled. I ended up with another stack of RR in the end, of course.
CVS

2 Frosted Flakes
1 Frosted Mini Wheats
3 Adidas deodorants
1 IceBreakers gum
Grand total — The whole lot cost $3.96. Not great but hey, still better than retail. The gum was supposed to be on clearance, and it rang up at $1.99. I only bought it to get my total up enoughto use the ECBs. I was feeling frazzled that day and I didn’t do my math before I got to the register, so it was mostly my mistake.
When I became a stay-at-home-mom, I promised I could save our family money by shopping sales and maybe even using a few coupons. I had no idea what I was getting into. These days, I am on a first-name basis with the cashiers at the local drugstores, I haven't paid for toothpaste or shampoo in over a year and I spend my free time here, helping others do the same. So please, make yourself at home while you learn how to save, and when to spend!
