Living better, spending less.
I dithered on whether or not to go out yesterday, but when I finally did, I actually managed to hit all my drugstores for the week. Well, except that Walgreens was out of the Nivea body wash, I forgot to check for the Bayer aspirin and I didn’t use all my $2.25 Ecotrin coupons because I knew I had to come back anyway. We’ll see. Plus, I met my husband for dinner and then we went cell phone shopping. It was a nice evening! Which is only fair because the afternoon was less pleasant. Would someone please tell my daughter that naps are good things? She is not so sure.

I did three transactions and spent a total of $26.63, with an out of pocket cost of $13.13 and the rest being Register Rewards.

This is the combined shopping for my account and also my mom’s. I pick up stuff for my parents while I’m out sometimes. I should have separated her stuff from mine for the picture but I didn’t. My bad. I made a bit of a mistake here, because the Electrasol rang up for $6.19. Even with the $2 SCR and the $2.50 coupon, that comes to $1.69, which is way too much for me. Also, I didn’t even look at the SaltAire boxes and one of them is not like the one pictured–I may have to return it, but that shouldn’t really affect my numbers. The out of pocket costs for both of these transactions was $15.44, and the SCRs received will be $22.47 for a $7.03 profit. I had four B1G1 coupons for the Purex, which was on a B1G1 sale. Free laundry detergent! I only have a gazillion bottles in my laundry room already.
I’ll skip the detailed summary for this one. I think I covered it well enough and it’s getting late. :)

This was .61 out of pocket after ECBs. I love how you don’t usually have to spend much “real” money at CVS if you plan it right. The real cost, with ECBs used, was $13.50.
Purchased
1 Post Trail Mix Crunch, 2.50
1 Easter egg dye kit, .29
2 Tena underwear, 13.99 – B1G1
2 All laundry detergent, 7.49
Coupons Used
-2.00 All x 2 (printable, no longer available)
-2.00 Post printable
-5.00 $5/$25 CRT
There’s a mail-in rebate for the Tena for up to $12.99. I bought the product during a B1G1 so I could get two items for free instead of just one. Unfortunately, CVS is a dollar over the allowed price for them, but it was covered by the $5 CRT anyway. After the rebate of 12.99 is subtracted, that makes everything a total cost of $0.51.
I think we could use a summary picture, don’t you?
This one just amused me. It’s kind of a silly little hobby I have, isn’t it? :) Stacking piles of random things around the living room and then taking pictures of them. But, fun! Everything you see in the above picture? They gave me $6.89 to bring it home. Definitely worth the time it takes to go get it.
What do you do with all this stuff? Well, I now have 18 bottles (no joke) of laundry detergent in my stockpile (not counting the giant box of Surf that I bought at Sam’s before I collected them all.) I think I might have spent $1 a bottle for a few of the earliest purchases, but then I “graduated” to buying them for free. I will either use them over a long period of time or I will perhaps sell off a few select varieties. Canned foods and cereal will be eaten. Dishwashing tablets will be used or sold, depending on whether or not I can stand using them.
I am itching to have a yard sale! I need to get that planned.
When I became a stay-at-home-mom, I promised I could save our family money by shopping sales and maybe even using a few coupons. I had no idea what I was getting into. These days, I am on a first-name basis with the cashiers at the local drugstores, I haven't paid for toothpaste or shampoo in over a year and I spend my free time here, helping others do the same. So please, make yourself at home while you learn how to save, and when to spend!
