Living better, spending less.
One of the coolest things about the type of shopping that I do now is that I can help save money for my family, too. My mom and aunt came down to visit with me yesterday, and we hit CVS and Walgreens while we were out. (We ate both lunch and dinner out, so I guess we negated the savings by eating, but we had fun anyway.)
My aunt wanted to go to CVS to pick up some Pepsi products. I really didn’t have much to buy at CVS this week–the only thing I really had in mind was the Fusion Gamer razor, which is free after a $4 coupon and ECBs, but it’s not actually even available until Friday. (Speaking of which… why put it in your paper as on sale Sunday through Saturday when it’s not even going to be in stock until Friday afternoon? Crazy.)
My $10 ECB didn’t print for buying the Pepsi, and I’m glad I looked at my receipt before I left because my favorite CVS cashier had mentioned that the Pepsi wasn’t even scanning for them this week, and she had had to manually enter it as $3.33 for a “taxable item”. I would have most likely struck out while calling corporate with a receipt full of “taxable item” and not a single “Pepsi”. ;) She manually printed the ECB so it worked out fine. It’s the first time they’ve ever manually printed anything for me. In the past, she’s said that they can’t do it. Yesterday, she said they could do it as long as there was an offer number listed. Anyway, it worked out, at least.
Super luxury: having two people there to entertain my baby while shopping. Not even just entertaining her, either. When her Granny is along, Evelyn does not give a flying fig for her mother. She cries when I try to push the cart. It makes it a little hard to shop sometimes when my mom is along, but it’s so sweet that she loves her Granny so much. :)
Random coupon mojo moments yesterday: I helped a rather odd customer find a cheaper sleeping aid for her husband and tore the $2 coupon out of the ESR book for her. I sometimes tell other customers about deals, but I’m kind of shy so I don’t do it very often. I also gave a $1/2 Red Baron pizza coupon to an employee checking out at the beauty counter and let her get in front of me in line. I try to be super nice to the cashiers because it’s so much better when they like me than when they don’t. ;) I had three transactions (one each for me, my mom and my aunt) so I didn’t want to keep her waiting. Hopefully she will remember me in the future when something goes wonky in a transaction!
When I became a stay-at-home-mom, I promised I could save our family money by shopping sales and maybe even using a few coupons. I had no idea what I was getting into. These days, I am on a first-name basis with the cashiers at the local drugstores, I haven't paid for toothpaste or shampoo in over a year and I spend my free time here, helping others do the same. So please, make yourself at home while you learn how to save, and when to spend!
