Living better, spending less.
I ended up doing quite a bit of shopping this week, and I didn’t even mean to. It was so cold at the beginning of the week that I didn’t even want to get out. Thursday, I did a lot of small shopping errands but didn’t buy a whole lot. Yesterday, I had no plans at all to leave the house, except my sweet, sweet baby and I had a bit of a rough morning. Actually, we had a rough night, too, because she was up for four hours in the middle of the night, and so I was worn out yesterday and still, she refused to take her nap. Anyway, on days like that, I have to get out of the house or lose my mind, so I met my husband for a late lunch in a neighboring town, and then shopped my way home.
On the left side of the picture is the stuff I bought at Walgreens. Not pictured is seven cases of Pepsi. That’s the third batch I’ve bought for us, and I bought two more for my parents (though one was from CVS.) I am officially really tired of lugging pop around now.
6 boxes of Kraft mac n chese. No coupons, but 3 for $2, which is decent.
2 Oragels, free after rebate*
2 Bald Guyz, supposed to be free after rebate*
7 Pepsi.
I used a $10 RR on each transaction and paid $27.61 + $5.32 out of pocket, and I got back $10 RR. I will also receive 5.99 for the Bald Guyz (as long as the rumors of it being a rain check ESR this month are true) and $8.49 for the Oragel. I don’t have time or energy for specific calculations here (especially throwing my mom’s items in), but I’m calculating it as somewhere around $11 out of pocket altogether, minus the 10% bonus on the ESR.
*I don’t have two accounts–I just often pick up some stuff for for my mom in a separate transaction and she pays me back. I suppose I should have left her stuff out of the picture but.. oh, well.
While I was out of town having lunch with my husband, I decided to stop in at their CVS, which I’ve only been to once before. It was nice, though missing a magic scanner. :) I have been looking all month for the throat coolers at my CVS and have never found a single free after ECB item available, but they had three, and one of the nose sprays. I also bought a bottle of Mylicon and a package of travel pill containers for my mom. (They were cute and little and I am a sucker for cute.) I used one B1G1 coupon (too bad they didn’t have one more so I could have used another coupon!), a $2 Mylicon coupon and a pile of ECBs. On the way home, I stopped in at our CVS to pick up some pictures that I had printed–50 free prints = 53 pictures for 45 cents. Excellent price! :) While I was there, I saw that they actually had the nose stuff available, and with a $2 peelie! Anyway, I received 4.99 ECB for all three throat coolers, $7.99 for the nose spray (twice) and $3 for the Mylicon. In summary, I made $1.24 of profit on all of my CVS items. Awesome! I heart CVS.
When I became a stay-at-home-mom, I promised I could save our family money by shopping sales and maybe even using a few coupons. I had no idea what I was getting into. These days, I am on a first-name basis with the cashiers at the local drugstores, I haven't paid for toothpaste or shampoo in over a year and I spend my free time here, helping others do the same. So please, make yourself at home while you learn how to save, and when to spend!
